We’re not just another seafood restaurant in Ulverstone. We’re a genuine fishing family who’ve worked these waters for over 40 years, catching, processing and serving the freshest Tasmanian seafood you’ll find.
When you’ve spent 40 years fishing Tasmanian waters, you learn how to respect the catch. Our seafood is pan-fried, oven-baked, or grilled – whole fish, fillets, crayfish and more. We process everything on-site and serve generous portions.
Built on pillars over the ocean, our restaurant offers something truly special. Watch rays glide beneath you at high tide while enjoying your meal. We’ve created a fun, laid-back atmosphere – high-end quality without the snobbery.
Heard about this restaurant through friends, who could not rate it highly enough. My Mother and I have dined there four or five times, and have never been disappointed. Light batter, fresh fish, well cooked. Gummy is nice, but a little bland for my taste, so I go for the flathead. Actually going there again today for lunch. Puts any other fish and chips shop to shame.
Best fish and chips on the northwest coast, you will not be disappointed. Don’t ever close, if I lived closer I would eat far too much fried food. Drove an hour to re-experience what I wish could be a regular service Thanks Straight of the Boat.
Had a lunch box ($10.50) with fresh fish of the day (saw fish). Extremely fresh fish and chips! Great service (thanks Carl). Probably the best fish and chips in Devonport and surrounding areas. Would recommend to anyone! They also sell fresh caught fish and crustaceans. I will gladly try them out next time.
Firstly we are ex-Kiwis, hence very particular about our fish and chips. We both ordered the lunch packs. Absolutely brilliant. Very happy with the serving size. Crispy batter, fluffy chips served with lemon. Even though we live an hour away it outshone our local Wynyard Seafoods so we will make the drive to see you again for an awesome feed and service. Keep it up! Kind regards, Michelle and Phil with full tummies.
Best fish & chips we have ever had! We found this little back street fish monger place on Google while waiting for the Spirit & it was hands down the best F&C we’ve ever had. The kitchen was due to close but the lovely young fella whipped up a batch of blue eye & chips for us, huge portions, beautiful, light, crispy batter! Oh and takeaway scallop & gummy pies were really good too.
We drove from Ulverstone to Devonport in order to purchase some fresh fish. After speaking to one of the experienced staff they suggested a piece of blue eyed trevally. At 58.00 per kilo it took my breath away, however the staff member offered to cut it in half and he told me just to throw it on the BBQ with a bit of oil. I followed his directions and am glad I did. The fish was tasty, moist and delicious. Thank you very much for your help. It was up there with the nicest fish I have ever cooked on the BBQ.
A great place to dine. The staff are friendly and the place was clean and welcoming. We ordered the Fisherman’s Box and we were given the option to have it battered, crumbed or grilled. We were also given salt and lemon preferences. We ordered it with salt but the chips were slightly salty so I would recommend to have it without salt. The fish was a generous portion and it was freshly made, delicious and crispy. Highly recommend.
Absolutely amazing seafood. I wasn’t too sure what to order so I asked for recommendations and the guy was super friendly. I had grenadier pack and the scallops. I was starving when I went in, food was served pretty quickly and the portions were really generous. Had a few people recommend this place and it totally lived up to expectations.
Discovered this gem while in Launceston. Great fresh fish (and large pieces) and well cooked, well seasoned chips. Potato cakes are soft and fluffy on the inside with a nice crisp crunch on the outside. We ate these down by the water for lunch and it did not disappoint. Highly recommend.
We're a fishing family with over 40 years' experience. We catch it on our boats, process it in our facility, and serve it fresh in our restaurant.

Great FRESH seafood .. Great chips FRESH FRESH FRESH. Choose your own fish. Great deals you won’t be disappointed. Lovely staff. Fresh seafood caught daily from their own boats.
I don’t remember the last time I had such good fish and chips. The fish was tender, fresh and legitimately sweet, the batter was light and crunchy. Yum! The whole family were impressed and raving. Definitely coming back.
Beautifully fresh fish, cooked to perfection. I had the Blue Grenadier and chips. The fish was tender and the chips were crispy.
If you are visiting Devonport this place is a must visit. Great seafood at great prices. Potato cake was made from mash and tastefully done. Flathead cooked to perfection. Seriously, good.
Delicious fish and chips, calamari and house-made potato cake! Friendly staff, food was cooked quickly and great value for money (huge serves at about $25 per person).
Awesome place for truly good and exceptionally fresh fish and chips. Probably the best I’ve had to be honest. Well worth a visit. It makes a big difference when you have a fresh product like this so it’s worth the drive to get there. Good range of both fresh and frozen seafood.
Great tasting and excellent value for the fish and chips. $16.50 for a serving of quality battered flat and chips, can’t beat it.
Delicious, fresh food. Fantastic customer service. Generous servings. Highly recommended.

Always enjoy going here, lovely people, great food, great service. I always get takeaway and have it somewhere near the water.
My first ever review. This unassuming little place was fantastic. Wonderfully fresh, tasty and stood head and shoulders over other fish and chips I’ve had. Friendly service, great food and definitely worth a stop if you find yourself peckish in Devonport.
Lovely fresh fish. Moderate portions, but great quality. We really liked the crumbed scallop pack and felt that the fish was nicest grilled, as it let the flavour shine.
The best fish n chips we’ve had in ages. It tastes as fresh as the name suggests. Awesome light crispy batter that stayed crispy after a dousing with lemon. Generous serve of chips. Been here a couple times now and it’s top notch. Definitely recommend it.
Absolutely wonderful! All the food was delicious and a minimal wait for it! Friendly staff as well!
Really fresh seafood. We tried the cooked prawns in the shell and battered gummy shark and chips.
Amazing food, what an experience, Fisherman basket 10/10 flavour, quality and consistency throughout the food.
Gourmet fish and chips. Fresh, good portions, potato cake and pie excellent.
Kind, considerate and thoughtful. Thank you for giving me just what I need. It’s delicious.
Quick, fast and fresh, good serving size and value for money. Delicious
Best fish and chips I’ve had hands down and good prices. The fish was beautifully beer battered and full of flavour. Straight off the boat is exactly what this is. Will definitely recommend.

Light crispy batter. Good value for money. Some of the best fish and chips I’ve had! I’d already eaten half of the dinner for 1 by the time I took this photo – had another 3 pieces of fish in it plus more chips…. a really decent serve for $10.
I read the reviews and came to taste for myself. DELICIOUS. Tried one battered and one crumbed gummy with salad and chips. Wow. You must try these for yourself.

Great experience, a proper little fish shop that catches their own fish locally (the hint is in the name). Quite industrial and tastes magnificent. The lunch special is exceptional value.
This was my first time buying fresh fish there. So fresh, no fish smell. Great tasting fish. Friendly staff.
Ordered fish pack and fisherman box which surprisingly fed 3 people with almost a box of chips leftover. The fish pieces were fresh and tasty.
I am a working holiday maker and travelled all around Aus literally. And this is one of my favourite fish and chips shops. So tasty that I want to learn the recipe and open one in my country indeed.
Best fish and chips in Tassie. We ordered 2 fisherman boxes, summer burger and gummy & veg. Fresh fish, delicious, can’t complain about anything. They sell fresh fish and frozen.
Must try potato cakes, the service was great there, quick and easy! The fish is so nice and fresh. If you’ve just got off the Spirit of Tasmania it’s a must have, so good, the best fish and chips I’ve had in ages 9.5/10!
Came here and ordered two of the flathead packs with chips, also ordered chicken nuggets for the kids, the flathead packs were amazing and very generous serve, chips were awesome, chicken nuggets are a bit too pricey but overall great food, thanks guys we will be back.

Hands down the best fish and chips!! Everything was so fresh and delicious! We had battered flathead, homemade potato cakes and chippies, and every bite was absolutely divine. The portions were huge and we left completely satisfied. We’d come back here in a heartbeat!
Great place to eat in or take away. Friendly staff, great prices, great portions. So many options of fish battered, crumbed or grilled. Definitely recommended in the area.
Called in for a takeaway seafood basket and wasn’t disappointed. Chips and battered flake were nice and crispy and the scallops, prawn cutlets and calamari were tender and flavourful. The aioli sauce was really nice and complemented the meal. They have frozen snacks for your fur babies too!

Awesome place to get great fresh seafood with reasonable price. Good taste, good and fast service. Recommended! The place is just a bit small, many people do take away.
Straight from the boat to the plate — incredibly fresh, beautifully cooked, and full of clean ocean flavour. A simple dish done perfectly. Highly recommended.

We rocked up on Good Friday 11am ordered fish and small chips, now MOST fish and chip shops give you a bit of fish and lots of batter with a couple of chips not this mob holy cow lots of chips lots of flathead cooked to perfection and awesome we will be back for more in a few days 5 stars is not enough, the photo is after we’d eaten some. Ok 6 days later we came back for lunch, flathead pack + extra flathead, scallops and pineapple fritters, we should have gotten just the flathead pack because we could not eat it all again everything was cooked to perfection.

Great service and variety of fresh seafood. I bought some prawns which were super and fresh octopus which is marinating ready for the grill. Just had to get some hot chips too, freshly cooked and delicious.
We got 24 oysters, they’re very delicious! Also recommend Fisherman Box! If you want to try local seafood it’s one bus stop.
Excellent local seafood takeaway in classic butcher paper packaging. Fantastic prices for portion sizes and friendly service every time I’ve gone. A staple of my Devonport visits.
Amazing, simple but done well fish and chips. Very fresh fish and a must if stopping in the area. The batter was beautifully crispy and thin. Love the tartar sauce!!
Everyone is super friendly! It was our first visit there and we find that the meals there are lovely! We had the gummy fish, bass and scallops. We tried the battered ones + salt + lemon. You would also have to buy the sauces (we had tartar sauce $4.90 + sweet sauce $1). You can get the vinegar at the counter. Parking within the shop perimeter was allowed. You can dine in and take away. Either way, you must eat it hot!! Tartar sauce was delish! Loved it! Overall, a good place to have fish and chips! The scallops I think would be nicer if you had it in breadcrumbs. Might try that next time!
A great fresh fish and chips has juicy, flaky fish inside with a light, golden, crispy batter outside, paired with hot, fluffy chips. Simple, comforting, and perfectly balanced.
Loved my fish and chips! The homemade potato cakes were amazing (from Melbourne so don’t have them here). The only thing I am disappointed in was me not ordering the cheese and bacon homemade potato cake! I will definitely be back to try them!
